1 Timothy 2:1-4
2:1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Romans 13:1-7
13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
1 Peter 2:13-17
13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
For those who can’t obey these refuse to submit to the Lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ
Welcome to our next Commander and Chief and lets pray for the last few months of our current one.
The scriptures chosen are very appropriate for this hour. While Obama did not recieve my vote (Constitution Party), I could not help but to be a little excited for history sake. I am not sure if any one has won by such a large margin…help me if someone knows.
Anyway as the scriptures state to pray…immedately I began to pray for Obama and his family. Mostly prayers for protection and those little girls….All that to say we need to be in prayer for him and those around him. Thanks for helping Christians to remember that God is in CONTROL!
This whole election has helped me to see that I have not been faithful to pray for the nations leadership. Pretty faithful to complain and remind the world why I never voted for Bush…but how does that benefit anyone or anything? How does that bring Glory to Christ? It doesn’t and needs to change.
Amen.
May God bless Obama and his family.
The truth is that no man or women is prepared or sufficient to handle the responsibilities and issues that the presidency will throw at him or her.
No matter who we individually voted for, we cannot fail to acknowledge a few things:
1. As Lionel mentioned in a previous post-those who are still alive among us who were dehumanized and forced to eat seperately, drink from different water fountains etc. are amazed. I know they are alternating between crying and laughing for joy even if they do not like President Obamas policy.
2. Having so many more people actually be a part of the political process is a good thing. Historically voter registration movements to registar young voters and minority group voters have failed to actually turn out new voters who actually showed up at the polls on election day. Young voters and minority voters showed up in record numbers! That is key to participating in a representative republic, they will be heard and both the democrat and republican parties cannot just take the minority vote for granted or count on them to not turn out!
3. Younger parents can look their son or daughter in the eye and tell them that they could grow up to be president and actually believe it a little more!
Nicolle,
I agree wholeheartedly. By the way can you email me that list of stuff again for the food drive? I think I have it but I want to ensure. Thanks a bunch. Jesus reigns supreme, but so that we can have an opportunity to minister to others in a peacful environment I will pray that nothing inhibits that.
Hutch,
I can show my Son roots, the Death of MLK, the Civil Rights Act and this. Yes he can be president but I hope he wouldn’t. I think there is too much compromise involved in that office and I want him to be raw like his Handsome, well Very Handsome father.
Yes, I know you would hope that he would probably do something better with his time and talents as we know success in politics is a matter of being able to consistently compromise, but you get my point.
Nicolle, Lionel and Hutch,
All very good points. I am just happy to see this election be over. I am a political nut and was just overly taxed by it all.
The Lord also has used this election to show me who is really in control and the very important part of scripture as Lionel you pointed out.
I lost more sleep over Texas losing to Tech than this election. So go Longhorns. I have really enjoyed following the points made on these last few election time posts. It has opened me up to the reality of what is really important. Let’s continue to be the church and seek who we can minister to instead of being concerned over issues that we are not worry about. Again AMEN to what you all already said.
Steven
Bro. Lionel,
What about Titus 3:1-8? You slipping man, LOL!!!
Sis Nicolle,
Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale 525-13
Hutch,
Now all I need is for the Republican party to nominate a minority for the Presidency and then I’ll be convinced that we’ve “overcome”. LOL!!! (Just messing with you bro!)
SOwen,
USC losing to Oregon State was much more devestating! LOL!!!
“…and I want him to be raw like his Handsome, well Very Handsome father”
I smiled:)
Bro. Lawrence D.-
I’m with you, can’t we find anybody in the Republican party who is a minority and under 90 to run for president who really does embrace conservative principles? I could name a few, how about you?
Thanks for mentioning Reagan, he routed Carter as well.
As I’ve taken in the events of the past 24 hours, it has become readily apparent that President Obama will need MUCH prayer!
It’s unbelievable how polarizing this election has been. I’ve seen and have read things that I haven’t experienced in 30 years! On one side pure elation and historic celebration. On the other, vile, discontent, demonizing, racial slurs and some real scary stuff from the undercurrent of this country.
Very ugly stuff and it shows how far we haven’t progressed even in this 21st century.
I pray that as Christians, we will submit to the commands of scripture and pray for President Obama and his family. Even if we don’t agree with his view and agenda, for that is the will of God!
Remember, it’s easy to pray and align ourselves with those whom we agree with. Yet God in His love for us, through Christ created a bridge to Himself for the undeserving… when we didn’t deserve it!!! That’s LOVE!
He gave ME what I didn’t deserve, in order to keep me from getting WHAT I deserved, so that I might share that love with undeserving others!
Selah!
I Ain’t Nobody!
We should also urge leaders to give up evil practices:
“Therefore, O king, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.” — Daniel 4:27
We are commanded to pray for leaders, but I cannot rejoice that a man who believes people should have a right to kill their children has been elected.
Ben,
I am going to quote part of this for you back to you:
” Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed”
Given that clause of the statement you don’t think this shoe is the perfect style, perfect size and perfect price for our current Commander in Chief?
Thanks Bro Lawerence D for the info on president Reagan. Lionel I will email you the info. for the baskets. Thanks for being willing to support.
Lionel-
Check this out and let me know what you think:

Bro. Hutch,
I only know of Bobby Jindal and Alan Keyes and that just by name mostly. Give me a few to look into. Thanks!
Bo. Lawrence D.-
Maybe we could add JC Watts or Michael S. Steele to the list.
Hey, we won’t place our faith and trust in these guys either, but I would vote for them.
I was just watching Michael Steele a couple of nights ago on “Hannity and Colmes”. (Yes, I’m a Fox news fan even if it’s to only yell at the tv, lol) J.C. Watts, didn’t he retire from politics? I forgot about both of these gentlemen. Thanks Hutch!
My wife calls FOX in the evening “Argument TV” she hates conflict and refuses to watch it.
Yes, JC did retire from politics, but you never know.
I liked his style and how he called it straight, although he was proud to be in the party of Lincoln and MLK he never failed to shoot straight about the GOP not really reaching out to the black community except for running ads in Jet magazine six months before an election!
Hutch and Bro. Lawrence,
As I was reading your comments earlier I had J.C. Watts in mind also. In saying that I googled his name to see what he is doing now. On the site http://www.worldnetdaily.com or .net anyway they have an interview of him and his view of the republican party of today.
FYI……….Steven
It’s notable that Paul wrote some of those words while under house arrest realizing that thousands of Christians lives were being threatened at the hands of one of the most heinous emperors know to man by that time.
The problem with staunchly Republican Christians has been that they have identified too closely with a political party. If we are called to be holy, that is “set apart”, a primary reason is so that people can see who God is in His people in contrast to the world. Being too closely identified with a political party or a politician blurs this purpose. The challenge now for Christians who are staunch Democrats is to maintain the political distance necessary to achieve enough contrast so the people of this world to see who Christ is in His people.
