After much wrestling and praying and a few upset blog visitors we have decided to change the name. Tyris gave me the okay to change it so I will. We will change the name to “A Better Covenant”. The key verse will be Hebrews 8:6. No need to change the name on your blogroll. We won’t change the URL. We both hold to what is known as New Covenant Theology (with some minor differences maybe) and you will see a page for it in place of the page formerly known as “why”
Like the name.
You guys are clever.
I just figured it out as I was updating my blogroll. You wanted to be first on everyone’s list.
“ABC” ministries…….
or better known as ministry dedicated to getting back to the BASICS/BUILDING BLOCKS of the Faith in order to develop the stage for having an solid Vocabulary so that Christian Living canbe presented/spoken in the best way possible…..and taking people back to the privelage of what we’ve been entrusted with in Christ & the simplicity of what it means to walk with the Lord
I got used to the “BLACK&REFORMED” Ministry label and liked it (as I never really had a problem with it—though only at times I was perplexed by it when it seemd that the perspectives of you/tyris seemed to go beyond that of what’s typically considered to be a Reformed perspective on things)—–with the thought occuring here:
http://blackandreformedministries.com/2008/07/23/maybe-i-should-just-drop-the-reformed-label-am-i-reformed-enough-for-you/
But in all honesty, I LOVE THE NEW NAME OF YOUR SITE—-AS IT SIMPLIFIES MANY OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED ON YOUR SITE, IMHO, AND really serves to bring home the reality of how things are for us as Believers. That…and the fact that the verse in Hebrews really seems to make the point of something which we often seem to forget.
I like the new name better:)
It reflects much of the content of your blog posts.
Keep up the good work.

Hey is that why T hasn’t been posting as much because of the name? LOL!!! Great name fellas!
Hi Lionel, we’ve been visiting each other’s blogs and “bumping into” each other on other like-minded blogs lately, and today I sat down and read your testimony and about the church network you’re a part of. I was really encouraged by everything I read, from the bumpy road God brought you through, to the kind of body you are seeking to build up and be a part of. My wife Heather and I are also coming to the place that we’re now in after a long road of frustrating church/church-people experiences, and can relate to so much of what you talk about. It thrills my soul to hear about someone being freed from the bondage of sin, and then also from the bondage of empty, man-made religion. It’s all about life! I’m no so familiar with the terms reformed or new covenant theology as to know what they typically mean, but from everything I’ve heard you talk about so far, you seem to just take the bible at face value, which is of course all God wants us to do! As I’ve been able to begin reading the bible without the filters that were ingrained in me for so many years, it’s been incredible to go back and rediscover what God is talking about with things like the two covenants. It’s cool cuz being able to understand the whole idea of the two covenants pretty much sums up everything that the bible goes through. The old covenant (the law, the temple, the priests, etc.) was temporary, insufficient, and created for the very purpose of demonstrating that a better covenant was required! And voila, Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of everything that wasn’t good enough in the old. So simple, yet so misunderstood! It seems to me that when this basic understanding is forgotten, christians can only guess as to what the old testament is even for, and it just becomes a volume character studies and stories for children. Anyways, great to finally “meet” you. Keep it up!
in Christ, Daniel
To all,
Thank you very much. Hopefully Tyris will be back to help keep this thing going. I appreciate the kind words. I also hope to exalt Christ as the greatest gift we can receive and the future grace of seeing Him face to face as our most glorious ambition.
Please keep interacting. It sharpens me in a way that may be unknown.
Daniel you are a blessing indeed and I thoroughly enjoy your blog
CJ you are a genius brother your reviews make my head ache. Can’t wait for the published material on race coming
GDub lets keep sharpening one another.
BLD we argued for about a year and now you have taken the pill brother! LOL
Stan I owe you a tag. I just have to publish it.
It is sure a better covenant, good job on the change.
Thanks DTG
Love the new name…might change mine next year.
Lawrence Dacus, you funny man. I have been out of the loop for a while now. My computer went down back in april and i have been too lazy to get it fixed and to top that off I started a new job back in april too. Blogging is very time consuming when you work 12 hour days. That is, unless you have a job like Lionel where here gets paid to blog-LOL Just joking L.-I will get back into the game. Peace in Christ
Just missing you a lot man, lol!!! Good to have you back. I know about those 12 hour shifts. And blogging? Don’t even get me started.
Hey Don’t listen to Tyris. Tell him quit pecking the computer and take some typing classes. Not to mention if he stayed away from the Lakeland Conferences he would be in better shape.
Lionel,
Since the first time that read your blogs up to to now i have seen such a difference in your writing and your approach. it is amazing how you can go from one thing to the next(constant reformation). Truthfully, there was a higher inflection of black than the reformed. I remember reading a comment on another blog where you were chopping it with another brother and he questioned you on somethings. It was at that moment where i saw a change in your writing. The reform part of your blossomed and so did your inflection in your writing.
The more I read your post the more i see a true appeal to the heart of man for truth, grace and brotherly love.
continued progress
Hey Brian,
You still working on the church plant out east?
BTW Brian,
Thank you for the kind words brother. I guess the majority of it has to do with the Gospel I remember Tim Keller saying “the Gospel isn’t just the beginning of the Christian life it is the vehicle that takes you through” (paraphrase). I think once I understood all of the compentents of the Gospel.
1. God takes the Initiaitive
2. I really am dead (though I believed the Doctrines of Grace)
3. The Gospel=Total Grace
4. Those 3 blended together effects the way you interact with all human beings.
Not to mention that God “demonstrates” His love. Because of those things and having brothers come through here and not just say something crazy but really challenge me (I have gotten a grip of personal emails) to watch my tone, sarcasm and purpose (because I don’t know who is reading this stuff) and when they came with the scriptures all I could do is apologize and seek God’s hand if He wanted me to continue to write. So it has really been the commenters and me remembering who I was before the Cross and when I didn’t know the difference between Titus and Nahum that really helped me.
Still working in South Carolina on the chruch plant with a group of brothers and in constant prayer of a new church plant in Baltimore in two years. We will see where God leads in the meantime. The Baltimore church plant is going to be a major walk of faith.
So we are praying for clarity and finishing school.
