Here is the question:
What would the church look like if we were to really practice the priesthood of all believers and shed the current clergy/laity distinctions that are so prevalent in our local assemblies?
Instructions:
Write one to two paragraphs. I am curious on your thoughts.
What The body would have is what we read about in scripture, their would be no Pimps, no King and Queens with thrones, no wifes called co-pastors, no silly services that produce nothing. I believe the world would be envious of the body of Christ seeing the power of God expressed through Love.
I just have to say that your list of bad churches is completely out of order. It is not for you to judge which church is good or bad, matter fact, it’s against the word of God. Joyce Meyers has been a huge encouragement to so many christians in their daily walk and that’s why God has been blessing her ministry. T.D. Jakes is another one that is used by God mightily. I don’t know if it’s because of a private jet that they own, maybe their was a teaching that you may have disagreed with, that,s fine, but do not cause division in the Body of Christ. Please pray about what you’re doing. You are no better than anyone that you havelisted in the bad churches page. Instead of shouting out those churches, pray for them as we shoud be doing for one another. Boast not of yourself more higher than you ought to, and that’s in the word of God as well. I saw the page with J-Son and love his music, but other than that, you got some changes that need to be made on this site. Leave the judging to God and don’t be pious! Promoting all these bible centers and all this theology, there is a difference between knowlege and wisdom. It’s good to have knowledge, but wisdom is what God wants us to have most. Read proverbs if you don’ believe me. I pray that this message reaches whoever has created this site and that God would continued to mold you in His image.
Hey Stephen didn’t you just judge me? That is hypocritical isn’t it?
u would have Eph 4:11-16
minus the apostles and prophets…
i have more to say but will just shoot that first…
I would like to begin with what Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4; that those who worship the LORD would worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Not dependent on a location(Jerusalem, that mountain where Samarians worshiped or any place). Therefore church is not a physical building, it is not Rome, it is not a reinovated theater or storefront. The biblical church is the assembly of believers who have been purchased by the blood of Christ and baptized into His body by the Holy Spirit. They are lively stones being placed into the true Spiritual temple where Christ is the cornerstone and the apostle and prophets are the foundation.
So here is the priesthood of believers with one High Priest; Jesus Christ. There is one Shepherd and one flock. A body of believers who are priest. Remember only one nation, one tribe and only one gender could serve in the tabernacle. Now because of Christ, men and women from every people group who are born again may serve in the True Tabernacle.
Next when believers gather, we gather according to the pattern COMMANDED by God throught the apostle in 1 Cor 14. We all have the opportunity to contribute that all may learn and be encouraged, why because we are priest unto God. What does this look like?
1. Men who are gifted to teach, bring a teaching.
2. There may be one song, two songs or three
3. Children are present who want to read Scripture or pray.
4. Elders are discerning as to what is taught or proclaimed and if necessary bring humble, loving and bold rebuke.
5. Yes women to participate. In singing, prayer and Scripture reading.
6. We seek to uplift the name of Christ and edify one another. Finding
7. There is no clergy/laity distinction because it is not found in Scripture. There is not just two people participating(pastor and the worship leader) It is Christ and everyone else. The Holy Spirit leads and works through the believers in an orderly manner.
Lionel what you are asking here, is what many are asking, “Where is this church we see in Scripture?” The first Reformation saw the return to justification by faith. The second Reformation is on the horizion. Reforming of our ecclessiology to the biblical pattern.
Phillip
I am praying for this church my friend.
You know what Phill it is so funny how pragmatism dictates the way the church functions today. It is scarey how pragmatism mixed with fear dictates the church even more. It is funny that Apostles included much of the church in the day the day operation of the church. It is funny how Paul not only allowed but encouraged participatory meetings, prophecy, and other Gifts of the Spirit to function openly in the gatherings. It is funny how the Apostles were led by the Spirit and allowed Him to guide the meetings.
But today we need programs well because that is practical in our day. We need worship leaders because well that is what people expect. We need Elders appointing Elders and leadership teams making all of the decisions and we need programs to “control” the way we do things. All because we want people “comfortable” because well times have changed. The only problem with this is that there is little flexibility in these substitutes so now these things just aren’t best practice these things control the meetings of the people of God. Very sad indeed.
Steven thanks for the comments! From time to time we have people like yourself stop by and for some reason think we are hypocritical and wrong for exposing false teaching. That is great and is part of what we do. If you think for one moment that TD Jakes or Joyce Meyer are Christians you are really decieved. We expose them similar to how we expose Jehovah’s Witness’ or Mormons-They simply preach a different Gospel. If you would like to learn what we consider Knowledge derived from God’s wisdom. Lionel or myself are open to that. Instead of getting confused about things on here just call 816 916 0840. But don’t JUDGE us for JUDGING others-that is at its best, hypocritical. God Bless in Christ
Hey, I would ask the people in Africa,China and Vietnam. Since they truly have to depend on God for things. You know where I am coming from. As we in America are spoiled even in the “church”. We truly would look like the book of Acts and the rest of the New Testament. If we truly shed the whole clergy/laity and yeilded to the will of God and the Holy Spirit. Love your group. Lionel I posted by bio on an earlier post. I minister with brother Phillip here in Arkansas…
